Below are some answers to our most frequently asked questions.  This will help you decide if “Island Life” is for you!

Getting to Little Gasparilla Island

LGI is located approximately 70 minutes south of Sarasota and 90 minutes north of Ft Myers.  You can fly into Sarasota (SRQ), Ft Myers (RSW), or Punta Gorda (PGD).  There are limo services from each airport if you do not want to rent a vehicle (contact us for more information.)

To get on to Little Gasparilla Island (LGI), you will park at Eldred’s Marina, and catch the Pirate’s Water Taxi with Captain Emmett who will bring you to the Island and Peacock Lane dock, #21.

Eldred’s Marina is located at 6301 Boca Grande Causeway, Placida 33946.  (The town may come up as Rotunda West on GPS) Parking is 6.00/day.  You will need to pre-pay for the week(s) you will be on the Island.  They will give you a pass for your windshield before boarding the water taxi. 941-697-1431

To reserve the Water Taxi, call as early as 1 month prior to arrival as Emmett can only take 6 at a time. 941-697-5777.  (No texts) He runs from 8AM – 5PM, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Try to schedule your arrival between these times as his rates go up considerably before and after his normal business hours.  Rates: 10.00 per person each way with a “20.00 minimum”. (One way for 2 people is 20.00, and one person is also 20.00)  He is CASH ONLY but will be happy to give you a receipt if requested.

Once we arrive at the Dock, then what?

We offer a complimentary concierge/greeter with a young man named Bret who will meet you at dock #21.  You need to make arrangements with him 1-2 weeks prior to your arrival date so he can put you on his ‘meet and greet’ list.  (We give him our guest schedule as a back up).  Bret will meet you at the dock and bring you, your luggage and groceries to the cottage which is a 4 minute walk from the dock. The cottage has a large Rubbermaid cart which you can bring to the dock to pick up any additional items.

Do we allow pups?

Yes, we allow a well behaved, fully vaccinated dog which is also on flea and tick control. We charge a 100.00 fee (non taxable)  that is added to your rental  LGI is pet-friendly with some simple rules, (which are in our Pet Etiquette Guidelines that I will send you upon booking).  During May – October, pups MUST be on a lease as it is turtle hatching season.

What is supplied at Peacock Lane Cottage?

We supply most everything you would need for your Island vacation including linens, (2 sets per bed) towels, (some dog towels too) bath, kitchen, and laundry soap, sponges, paper products, many pantry items, spices, beach umbrellas, beach towels, fishing poles, etc.

Our caretaker/cleaners do leave most condiments from past guests which you will find this helpful as there are no stores on the Island and you just might have a hankering for hot sauce one night and chances are, it will be there!  There are all sizes/kinds of pots and pans, including a fish poacher (for those of you who “catch” your dinner), crock pot, knives, lots of various utensils, full oven/stove, large refrigerator, and large microwave.  Lots of baking pans, a drip coffee maker, French press, and coffee bean grinder.  There is a large Weber Charcoal grill (Not propane) and many times there is charcoal left from a prior guest, which you are more than welcome to use.  There is a chiminea which is fun for a nighttime outdoor fire, roasting marshmallows or making smores!  There is an outdoor rinse off shower for when you come in off the beach and perfect for rinsing Fido too.

What about bad weather or a Hurricane?

In the rare event of a “Named hurricane” and a mandatory evacuation, we will pro-rate your time spent at the cottage and refund the difference. Unfortunately, we cannot predict bad weather, red tide, etc., and there are no full or partial refunds offered.

Where do I buy groceries?

There are 2 Publix grocery stores, a Winn Dixie and a Wal-Mart near Eldred’s Marina.  Ask them to “Boat Bag” your groceries if you do not bring a cooler (which is highly recommended).  This will help give a bit of longevity to your temperature sensitive items.

Golf Cart Rentals?

If you want to rent a golfcart while on the Island, contact Deric at LGI Golf Carts at 941-697-3820.

Are there Boat, Stand Up Paddleboards and Kayak Rentals available?

Yes, yes and yes!   http://www.hookedonsup.com  Free delivery to dock, if renting for a week. If you are interested in a boat rental, we will be happy to give you that information.

What if there is a health Emergency or a problem at the cottage?

LGI has a 24/7 Fire Department, EMT/Paramedic on the Island.  In case of a life or death situation, there is a grassy heliport where the life flight can get on Island fast. Dial 911

We love to fish, do we need a license and where can we catch our dinner?

LGI is the epicenter of the state’s best inshore and offshore fishing.  Tarpon, snook, redfish, shark, grouper, snapper, and whiting to name a few.  Enjoy fishing from the dock or right on the Gulf.  Florida residents do not need a license.  If you are from out of state, you can check with the Florida Fish and Wildlife website.  There are also many fishing tours nearby.

Heavens forbid something goes wrong at the cottage, what then?

The first thing you want to do is call or text us and we will contact our caretakers who will do their very best to accommodate you and the problem as quickly as possible.  We have a contract with Grande Aire for all our appliances and AC in case something goes wrong.  They will come out as soon as possible. We also have 4 pest inspections per year.

I tend to overpack, what do I really need?

The simple answer is “not much”!  During the cooler months of mid-December – February, you should pack a light jacket/sweater, however, pack light! (You will thank us)  All you need are your swimsuits, flip-flops, sneakers for walking beach, a few pairs of short/tops, sunglasses and sun lotion which are a must!

I love the idea of an Island vacation but what if I want to go out to eat or shop?

You can call Emmett and see what he has available for taking you off/on the Island. The trip is only about 10 minutes and once you arrive back at the marina, you can hop in your car and take a right and go over the bridge to the lovely Boca Grande where you can enjoy many nice shops, restaurants and a state park with the Lighthouse museum.  Port Charlotte and Englewood are close by and have everything you might need or want.
